So much restauranty goodness in today’s Thursday Datebook:

  • The Update:  After receiving 2.5 stars from Michael Bauer in 2008 and a subsequent cut from the Top 100, Farallon bounces back in a big way. Pullquote:

[I]t feels as if Mark Franz and his crew, led by Ryan Simas, are back on track. The menu has been reformatted; the most expensive seafood main course on a recent menu was $27, and the combinations were as well executed as when the restaurant opened in 1997.

    Rating:  3.5 stars

  • The Review:  Amanda Gold finds addicting homemade sauces, fresh vegetables, and locally raised meat at Prime Rib Shabu.  Pullquote:

With the constant dipping, fishing and stabbing, shabu-shabu becomes a form of social eating and entertainment … [Prime Rib Shabu] may be another shabu-shabu joint in the Richmond, but it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

    Rating:  2 stars

  • The Feature:  Janny Hu tours the Inner Sunset’s standout eateries, perfect places for stopping in after a summer’s day stroll (the weather forces San Francisco to use the term “summer” loosely).
  • Bar Bites: Allen Matthews grabs killer crab cakes and a chipotle-infused bloody Mary at Crogan’s in Oakland.
  • Bargain Bite:  Don’t be fooled by the sign on the door at HRD Coffee Shop — Katie Popoff discovers far more than lattes at this SF global fusion eatery (think: kimchi burrito with kiwi-sour cream sauce).
  • The Inside Scoop column: Leary’s new chef, Bruno’s shuffle, Long Bar and more.
